Chairman of Broad Front, Uruguay Visited BJTU

On the afternoon of April 24th, Mr. CAO Guoyong, Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council, met with Mr. Miranda, Chairman of Broad Front (Frente Amplio, AF), the Governing Party of Uruguay. Mr. WEI Qiang, Director General of the Bureau of Latin American Affairs, International Department of Central Committee of CPC and Mr. Fernando Lugris, Ambassador of Uruguay attended the meeting.

CAO Guoyong extended his welcome to the delegation’s visit on behalf of the University. He introduced briefly the history, faculty and students, disciplines and international development of the University, and highlighted existing cooperation with universities in South America, especially the cooperation with University of the Republic, Uruguay. He expected to promote mutual understanding through this visit, jointly establish the academic and cultural exchange platforms to encourage the students and staff exchange, and lay good foundation for the development of the two countries'relationship.

Miranda appreciated the hospitality of the University. He said the governments of Uruguay attached great importance to cooperation with China, and he expected to strengthen mutual understanding and exchange in the areas of education and culture through this visit. Miranda highly appreciated the cooperation between BJTU and the University of the Republic of Uruguay. He promised to provide support and assistance to the cooperation between the two universities and to strengthen the two countries’ friendship by education collaboration.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety. They also interacted with teachers and students from the Spanish Language Faculty of the School of Languages and Communication Studies.

Prof. CHEN Feng, Vice President, and principals from School of Languages and Communication Studies and Office of International Affairs also attended the meeting.
