Honorary Professor Conferring Ceremony for Congressman Al Green of U.S. House of Representatives was held at BJTU

On April 14th, Congressman Al Green of U.S. House of Representatives, visited Beijing Jiaotong University, and attended the Honorary Professor Conferring Ceremony. Mr. CAO Guoyong, Chairman of the University Council, together with Mr. WANG Yongli, Deputy Director-General Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, met with Congressman Al Green.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the process of the construction of Texas Southern University Confucius Institute, and Mr. CAO spoke highly of Congressman Al Green’s contributions to the cultural and educational exchange between China and U.S. President NING Bin, presented the letter of appointment to Congressman Al Green. The conferring ceremony was hosted by Vice President LIU Jun.

Mr. Al Green shared with BJTU students and teachers his life experience. He also introduced the proposing process of the Resolution Honoring the 2560th Anniversary of the Birth of Confucius and how it had been successfully adopted in the U.S. House of Representatives. He said, Confucianism is a philosophy and political ideology that has deeply influenced, and continues to influence the U. S. and many other countries all over the world. It has inspired hundreds of thousands of scholars, including American scholars, who are influenced by Asian culture and Confucianism and contributed to the diversity of American culture. Whereas, the U.S. Congress adopted the resolution honoring the anniversary of the birth of Confucius in 2009. He also answered the questions raised by the student audience.

Meanwhile, Congressman Al Green conferred the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition to President NING Bin for his great contributions to the cultural and educational exchange between China and U.S.

On Janaury 3rd, 2013, Congressman Al Green made the oath to start his fifth term in the House of Representatives. On October 28th, 2009, he had presented the H. Res. 784 for the 2,560th anniversary of the birth of Confucius. He had played an active role in promoting the establishment of Confucius Institutes in the U.S.
