January 8th, 2024, Vice President GUAN Zhongliang met with the delegation led by Paul Chisale, President of The Copperbelt University of Zambia at Siyuan Building.
GUAN Zhongliang extended a warm welcome to President Paul Chisale and his delegation. He briefly presented background information on BJTU regarding its historical development, talent cultivation, international engagement, technical training programs and contributions in major national rail sector development. He emphasized that BJTU has been carrying out personnel training programs for the construction and operation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway since the 1970s. He hopes that bilateral cooperation could be enhanced in faculty exchange, student mobility and technical training to better serve the railway development of Zambia.
Prof. Chisale expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and delivered a general presentation of the Copperbelt University. He reviewed the friendship between China and Zambia developed by President Mao, President Kaunda and other leaders of prior generations. He gave high praises to BJTU’s achievement in talent cultivation, technical training and its contributions to the "Belt and Road" initiative and the national railway sector. He wishes that the two universities could enhance mutual learning and exchanges, actively promoting the efficient operation and management of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway. He also invited BJTU teachers and students to visit the Copperbelt University.
Officials from the College of International Education and the Office of International Affairs also attended the meeting.
Founded in 1987, the Copperbelt University of Zambia (CBU) is one of the first non-profit comprehensive public universities of Zambia and is an outstanding institution in Science and Engineering. Located in the center of Copperbelt Province, Kitwe, the Copperbelt University consists of 10 schools including School of Business, School of Mines and Mineral Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Information and Communication Technology, School of Infrastructure and Environment, School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, School of Natural Resources, School of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is known as the "talent pool" for the economic and social development of Zambia.
