On the afternoon of 6 June, President NING Bin met with the Ethiopian delegation led by Mr. Mengisty, minister of Ministry of Transportation and Mr. Kophlo, Minister of Ministry of Education at Siyuan Building. The 8 delegates are from Ethiopia Railway Corporation, Railway Research Institute, Railway Committee etc. along with Mr. CAO Baogang, Vice General Manager of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

President NING Bin extended sincere welcome to the delegation on behalf of the university and introduced the history, education scale, strength disciplines, talent cultivation, international cooperation and exchanges of the university as well as its engagement in the development of China’s hi-speed railway. He also reviewed the technical support provided in the construction of railway in Tanzania and Zambia and efforts in talent cultivation in 1960s by BJTU. He hoped that this visit would further enhance the mutual understanding between both sides, and promote the in-depth cooperation on the basis of mutual trust. Meanwhile, he extended warm welcome to African students studying at BJTU and committed that BJTU would provide support in talent cultivation for the railway construction cooperation between China and Ethiopia.

Mr. Mengisty extended gratitude to our hospitality and stated that the Ethiopian government would give full support to the state railway construction. He hoped this visit would help them to absorb our experiences in hi-speed railway construction, acquire required knowledge and technologies in railway network construction and discuss with BJTU about talent cultivation model and the reservation of related specialized human resources.

The Ethiopian delegates then undertook in-depth discussion with experts of BJTU on talent cultivation, cooperation between universities and corporations in China and Ethiopia, international cooperation, differences and connections between research institutes and universities, etc. President NING Bin also provided constructive suggestions for the railway construction in Ethiopia.
After the meeting, the delegation visited our State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety, History Museum, etc.

Vice President LIU Jun, Assistant President XU Yugong, Professor Si Yintao, Dean of School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education , and Professor Dong Hairong , Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs also attended the meeting.
