On the morning of 21st March, US first lady Michelle Obama attended a class given by YAO Yan’an, a professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, in the Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University accompany of Peng Liyuan, first lady of China. The course is specially designed for students who are interested in the applied mathematics, which is very popular among the students.

Prof. Yao made a brief introduction to the course and the MSEA educational concept (MSEA means the combination of Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Art) to the first ladies. Peng Liyuan pointed out that school education should put a high value on cultivating students’ innovative thinking and exploration competence. Michelle Obama showed great interests in students’ demonstration on robot and the MSEA educational concept put forward by Prof. Yao.

Prof. Yao devotes himself to the theory and application research of new concept geometry robot and has obtained more than 30 patent approvals. His research achievement--Research and Application of Geometry Robot was awarded the third Prize for Beijing Science and Technology in 2013.
